Consumer angst

The use of plastic is a lifestyle choice and we continue to use it habitually because of the convenience it gives to our lives. The Consumer angst series considers the conflict environmentally conscious consumers are confronted with in a consumerist society. In order to protect the natural environment we have an obligation to mitigate the impact of our excessive plastic consumption and waste.

The drawings depict disembodied individuals with their heads enveloped by plastic bags and their hands shackled by the plastic bag handles. This bondage is self inflicted. The translucency of the bags communicate that this situation we have created for ourselves is not uncertain, for we can see the issue at hand, but we are distracted from what is important to the planet by what is convenient for ourselves. The plastic trapped portraits represent the dilemma we find ourselves in. This is a prison of our own making.
